2012. Charlie studied at Chetham’s School of Music, taking weekly harmony lessons with Les Chisnall and Iain Dixon (until 2020)

2015. A student-led pops orchestra gave Charlie his first commission: “The Way You Look Tonight” for voice and orchestra

2016. Charlie began to formally study composition at Chetham’s with Jeremy Pike and later Richard Iles (from 2018)

2017. Charlie arranged multiple charts for the Greater Manchester Hub Jazz Orchestra that were performed at such venues as Bridgewater Hall and Band on the Wall (until the band disbanded in 2019)

2018. Charlie was contracted as staff arranger for UK chart-topping singer-songwriters Beverley Craven, Judie Tzuke and Julia Fordham’s Woman to Woman tour (at the age of just 16!)

2019. A piece for big band dedicated to Marty Paich was commissioned from Charlie for the Cambridge International Jazz Festival

2020. Charlie began composition and arrangement lessons with Stan Sulzmann and Nikki Iles at the Royal Academy of Music (class of 2024)

2022. Several of Charlie’s arrangements were played by the London Jazz Orchestra. These charts have continued to be performed by the LJO’s at most of their monthly concerts at Vortex Jazz Club in 2023

UPCOMING. Charlie will direct a big band project with English saxophonist Martin Speake (Speake’s music, arranged by Charlie)
